A habit is something we do automatically. It requires no thought. We live most of our lives on automatic pilot and some of the habits we have (going to the gym) serve us very well. Others (eating chocolate covered almonds), not so much.
We don’t have to consciously think about each of the steps involved in brushing our teeth or driving a car. Nor do we have to convince ourselves to watch TV at night, or scroll through Facebook. By making a conscious effort to write every day, pretty soon, writing becomes a habit. We no longer have to fit it into our schedule or find time to do it. We stop becoming anxious about whether what we’ve written is good or not. We simply write.
