Valerie Francis is an indie author and runs Bocereas Press, her independent publishing company—an invigorating challenge that has given her an opportunity to connect with authors all over the world.
Valerie has been writing her entire life and completed her first book at the age of seven. Prior to establishing Bocereas Press, she worked in the field of media and corporate communications for twenty years. As part of that career, she worked for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and it was there that the idea for the Nature Knights series was born. She saw a photo of a turtle that had died because of plastic garbage it ingested, and wondered what would happen if nature could fight back. Nature Knights is her exploration of that question.
Valerie is a member of the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi), the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), the Writers’ Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador (WANL), the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs (NLOWE) and the Canadian Children’s Book Centre. She lives on the island of Newfoundland on the east coast of Canada, with her two children, two cats and dog.
